A Dubai court has sentenced two Asians to life in prison after finding them guilty of drug trafficking. The ruling, issued by the Dubai Criminal Court, also includes a fine of Dh500,000 each and their deportation after serving their sentences. A life sentence in the UAE is typically 25 years in jail. The case dates back to February 2024, when authorities received intelligence that the suspects were involved in drug distribution in the Hor Al Anz area. A thorough investigation by Dubai Police’s General Department of Anti-Narcotics confirmed the tip-off, leading to their arrest. During the search, officers discovered 62 grams of hashish on one of the suspects. Further investigations led to the discovery of additional narcotics, including over 550 grams of illegal substances hidden in multiple locations. Police also found tools used for packaging and weighing drugs. The suspects admitted to promoting drugs via social media, where they arranged transactions and received payments through bank transfers. However, in court, they denied the charges. Their conviction was secured based on forensic evidence, their prior confessions, and the seizure of illegal substances. In addition to their life sentences, the court imposed a two-year restriction on their financial transactions post-release, requiring them to seek approval from the UAE Central Bank for any monetary dealings.
