A total of 11,988 drug traffickers were arrested across the UAE in 2023, the Ministry of Interior revealed on Wednesday (June 26). The announcement came as the UAE observed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, with the Ministry of Interior emphasizing its “relentless fight against drugs”. UAE authorities also seized over 29,000kg of illegal drugs and blocked 2,397 websites promoting illegal substances, said Brigadier Saeed Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director General of Federal Narcotics Control at the Ministry of Interior. "The UAE is committed to strengthening its international cooperation in the fields of combating the promotion and trafficking of narcotics. The UAE cooperated with more than 30 countries in (2023) on cases, follow-ups and information on the smuggling and promotion of narcotics and psychotropic substances," Al Suwaidi said. The official said that authorities in other countries were able to seize a total of 4,481kg of narcotics with the help of information from the UAE. ICA/Expat Media
