UAE laws: 3 odd things that could get you fined, arrested

There are plenty of serious acts that could get you fined and arrested in the UAE but here are three odd violations you probably didn’t know about: FEEDING STRAY ANIMALS It may seem like a good deed to feed starving, homeless cats, but it may not be acceptable to the law. Animal rights activists argue that feeding stray cats increases their ability to give birth to even more kittens destined to suffer and die premature deaths, say animal welfare groups. According to Dubai Municipality, it is illegal to feed stray animals or birds in Dubai. This includes pigeons, crows, and other birds. Violators could get fined up to Dh500. PUBLIC CAR WASHING It is illegal to wash vehicles outside private residences, in gated communities, or on public streets unless one is in a licensed car wash location. Violators could get fined up to Dh500. RECORDING ACCIDENTS Taking photos or videos of accidents is illegal in the UAE unless you intend to file a claim for damages or compensation. It is also illegal to crowd near the scene of an accident. According to Article 44 of the UAE Cybercrime Law, which went into effect on January 2 this year, and Article 197 of the UAE Penal Code, which is based on Ministerial Resolution No. 178 for 2017 on Rules and Procedures of Traffic Control, this action is illegal. Taking photos of accident victims carries a penalty of six months in prison and a fine of Dh150,000 to Dh500,000. BKM/ Expat Media
