The UAE Media Council has officially launched two new permits—the Advertiser Permit and the Visitor Advertiser Permit—for individuals publishing promotional content on social media platforms, whether paid or unpaid. The permits will be mandatory for all content creators and digital advertisers in the UAE beginning three months from now, giving influencers ample time to comply. “The Advertiser Permit is a regulatory step designed to empower content creators and improve the quality of advertisements,” said Maitha Majed Al Suwaidi, CEO of Strategy and Media Policy at the UAE Media Council. Who needs the permit?

Anyone publishing paid or unpaid promotional content on social media. This includes influencers, content creators, vloggers, and anyone monetizing digital content.

Who is exempt?

Individuals promoting their own business or a company they own, using a personal account. Creators under the age of 18 promoting cultural, educational, or awareness content that adheres to UAE standards are also exempt.

Permit details

Free of charge for the first 3 years Existing permits remain valid until expiry Permit number must be displayed clearly on the creator’s account No third-party advertising is allowed through someone else’s registered account Pre-approval is needed for certain content based on legislation

What is the Visitor Advertiser Permit?

This permit is for foreign influencers and creators visiting the UAE. The content creator must apply for the permit through an approved advertising or talent agency. The permit is valid for 3 months and is renewable once. Content creators with this permit must comply with all UAE advertising regulations. “This is part of building a transparent and credible media environment,” said Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council. The new policy aims to elevate advertising standards, attract investment, and position the UAE as a global leader in digital media.
