UAE airline raises alert over passenger with measles

UAE airline Etihad Airways has issued an alert after a passenger traveling from Abu Dhabi to Dublin tested positive for measles. The Abu Dhabi-based airline said it has informed Irish authorities and is coordinating with officials to trace anyone who came in contact with the passenger. An Etihad Airways spokesperson said the infected passenger travelled on Saturday (March 9) on flight EY045 from Abu Dhabi to the Irish capital of Dublin. In Ireland, an alert has been issued, with authorities asking passengers who travelled on the flight to contact the Health Service Executive office. Authorities asked passengers to stay at home in a secluded room and to seek medical help if they show symptoms, including high fever, runny nose, rashes around the neck or sore eyes. This was the third case of measles reported in Ireland so far this year. Measles is a highly contagious airborne disease that can spread when the infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. Symptom usually begin in 10 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. A rash on the face or upper neck is the most common visible symptom that shows about seven to 18 days after exposure to an infected person, according to the World Health Organization.
