The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has announced a five-day paid holiday for public sector employees across the UAE in observance of Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha. According to the authority, the holiday will begin on Monday (May 25) and continue until Friday (May 29). Normal working hours for federal government employees will resume on Monday (June 1). Private sector holiday schedules are expected to be announced separately by the relevant labour authorities. Watch this space. The announcement on Tuesday (May 12), gives public sector workers an extended break to mark one of Islam’s most significant religious occasions, allowing time for prayer, family gatherings, and travel during the festive period. Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage and follows Arafat Day, regarded as one of the holiest days in the Islamic calendar. During Eid Al Adha, Muslims traditionally gather for prayers, distribute meat to family members and those in need, and take part in charitable acts and social visits. The Eid Al Adha holiday is one of the longest official public holidays in the UAE calendar and is widely anticipated by residents using the long break for overseas trips or staycations across the emirates.
