At a UAE Cabinet meeting. ARCHIVE
Public benefit institutions in the UAE can now face fines of up to Dh30,000 for certain violations, under a new Cabinet resolution designed to tighten oversight and ensure transparency in the sector. The updated framework, issued in line with the Federal Decree Law, sets out a series of administrative penalties for offences such as failing to notify authorities of operational changes, participating in events without approval, hosting guests without clearance, affiliating with overseas organisations without authorisation, and mismanaging funds. Fines start as low as Dh1,000 for some infractions but can escalate to Dh30,000, in addition to temporary closure of the institution in repeated cases. The Ministry of Community Development said the resolution reflects the government’s commitment to “transparency, accountability, and safeguarding the integrity” of public benefit entities. Institutions are urged to review the rules carefully to avoid penalties and ensure their work aligns with national regulations and standards. Why the change matters
Public benefit institutions in the UAE often operate in areas such as charitable work, community development, and advocacy. Authorities have stressed that the updated penalties are aimed at preventing abuse, maintaining public trust, and ensuring compliance with proper legal and financial practices. Non-compliance could not only lead to steep fines but also harm the institution’s reputation and disrupt its community services.
