UAE announces new rules for schools, resumes all school activities

DUBAI – The UAE’s updated rules in the National Protocol for Educational Establishments takes effect starting on Thursday (April 21), according to the Ministry of Education and National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA). Under the updated rules, schools and educational establishments in the UAE can now resume all activities and events, with parents allowed to attend all school events as long as they comply with preventive measures, including the wearing of facemasks in closed spaces and the Green Pass protocol on the Al Hosn app. School trips organised by educational facilities are also fully restored, with participants to wear facemasks while on school buses. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated staff and students will be allowed to go on such trips, provided they have the green status on their Al Hosn app. The updated protocol also requires all university students wishing to enter dorms to conduct a PCR test once every month, or to follow the Green Pass protocol for vaccinated and unvaccinated students. All visitors in schools and educational establishments must follow the Green Pass Protocol. The same applies to students aged 16 and above, educational staff and personnel. Students aged under 16 are required to conduct a PCR test on a monthly basis. In case of confirmed Covid-19 infections, educational institutions must follow gradual closure procedures issued by NCEMA. Such procedures include closing the educational establishment for three days, if the infection rate exceeds 15 percent of the total attendance. Under the updated protocol, Covid-19 close contacts are no longer required to quarantine but must follow guidelines issued by health authorities. Those infected with Covid-19 and those with respiratory diseases may opt for distance education. The Ministry of Education and NCEMA noted that all the updates are applicable nationwide.
