The UAE’s gaming authority has announced the country’s official lottery operator, saying it awarded the license on Sunday (July 28). The coveted license was given to Abu Dhabi-based The Game LLC, a commercial gaming operator specialising in game development, lottery operations, and gaming-related content. “The launch of the UAE Lottery is a pivotal event that not only marks the establishment of a disciplined world-class regulatory framework for lottery activities but also underscores our commitment to nurturing a secure and enriched commercial gaming environment in the UAE,” according to Jim Murren, chairman of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA). The Game LLC will operate under the banner of the UAE Lottery, and will offer lottery as well as other games. It is a subsidiary of entertainment and commercial gaming development group Momentum. The announcement on Sunday came 10 months after the UAE established the GCGRA in September 2023. The GCGRA is a federal authority tasked to regulate commercial gaming in the country. After the GCGRA’s launch, gaming and raffle draw operators in the UAE paused operations under a new directive. In January, Mahzooz and Emirates Draw stopped their operations. Big Ticket followed, but resumed operations on June 3 after meeting the UAE’s regulatory gaming requirements. Dubai Duty Free raffle draws remained uninterrupted. ICA/Expat Media
