UAE approves new law on work injuries

A federal law on work injuries and occupational diseases has been passed by the UAE Cabinet. The new law establishes work risks for private-sector employees, as well as a framework for reporting and investigating them, as well as for deciding appropriate compensation. The legislation protects private-sector workers' rights by defining work-related injuries and diseases, as well as the compensation to which they are entitled. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, presided over the final Cabinet meeting of Expo 2020 Dubai. A resolution to establish a Collective Labour Disputes Committee was also agreed by the Cabinet. The committee, chaired by Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, would look into collective labor disputes involving 100 or more workers. Community Agriculture Project A proposal to provide green dwellings to widows, divorcees, senior persons, and people of determination was also approved by the Cabinet. The goal is to improve the quality of life for these citizens by empowering them. Greenhouses will be delivered to beneficiaries' homes and the Ministry of Community Development centers. “We aim to support them, provide them a healthy lifestyle and social benefits,” said Sheikh Mohammed. A healthy learning environment for children The National Child Protection Policy in Educational Institutions was approved by the Cabinet. The policy strives to safeguard children from harm by ensuring their safety and providing a healthy and safe educational environment. UAE Gender Balance Council Strategy The Cabinet authorized a new plan for the years 2022-2026, with four primary pillars: economic participation, welfare, protection, and entrepreneurship. Its goals include closing the gender gap in all sectors, improving the UAE's ranking in worldwide competitiveness surveys on gender equality, achieving gender balance in decision-making positions, and promoting the UAE's status as a model for gender balance legislation. A resolution to establish a general secretariat for the Emirates Development Council, as well as federal law for the approval of a supplementary budget to the UAE's federal budget for the fiscal year 2022, was also approved by the cabinet, according to WAM.
