UAE’s Sultan Al Neyadi to make history with first Arab spacewalk
Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi is set to make history by becoming the first Arab to perform a spacewalk, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) announced. Al Neyadi will undertake the historic spacewalk on the International Space Station (ISS) on April 28. It will make the UAE the 10th country to perform a spacewalk on the ISS. The Emirati astronaut will be part of the 262nd spacewalk in support of assembly, maintenance, and upgrades on the space station. He will work with NASA Flight Engineer Stephen Bowen. The job is projected to last approximately six hours and 30 minutes. Al Neyadi trained for more than 55 hours at NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas in preparation for spacewalks. “Sultan Al Neyadi's historic spacewalk is a testament to the UAE's unwavering dedication to advancing the frontiers of space exploration and fostering international cooperation,” said Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Chairman of MBRSC. Al Neyadi recently completed one month in space, after launching from Cape Canaveral in Florida with his Crew-6 team members on March 2, and docking with the ISS on March 3.
