UAE astronaut Sultan AlNeyadi.ARCHIVE
UAE astronaut Sultan AlNeyadi’s return to Earth has been delayed due to unfavourable weather conditions, according to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC). AlNeyadi and other crew onboard the Space X Dragon spacecraft were supposed to undock from the International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday (September 2), and were expected to splashdown off the coast of Florida in the US on September 3. According to NASA and SpaceX, the next available undocking opportunity is now no earlier than September 3, with a splashdown scheduled for September 4, pending weather conditions. AlNeyadi has completed his six-month mission in ISS, becoming the first Arab astronaut to go on the longest Arab space mission onboard the space station. The UAE Astronaut Programme is one of the projects managed by MBRSC under the UAE’s National Space Programme and funded by the ICT Fund of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, which aims to support research and development in the ICT sector in the UAE and promote the country’s integration on the global stage.
