The Ras Al Khaimah Police have informed residents of Ras Al Khaimah that some photographs and videos circulating on social media platforms are fabricated. The authorities denied the rumor's validity in a statement posted on Twitter, calling it "groundless." RAK police did not elaborate on the details of the photos and videos that have circulated online but they have cautioned residents to ensure that the information comes from reliable and official sources. The authorities further stated that community members are required to do so to avoid any potential legal action and any confusion that may occur due to the distribution of false information. Anyone who uses the internet to post, circulate, or spread fake news, rumors, or misleading information contradictory to the news published by official sources could be penalized with imprisonment for at least one year and a fine of Dh100,000, as stated in Article 52 of the law. In case the published false news or rumors agitate public opinion against state authorities or occur during times of pandemic, crises, or disasters, the violator could be imprisoned for at least two years and fined Dh200,000.
