Cyclists are urged to adhere to strict traffic rules as part of the “Our Winter is Safe and Enjoyable” campaign, launched by Abu Dhabi Police in collaboration with the Civil Defence Authority. This initiative aims to ensure safety and harmony for all road users. Here’s an overview of the cycling regulations: Use designated lanes: Cyclists must stick to dedicated bike paths. Where unavailable, ride on side roads with a 20 km/h speed limit. Protective gear: Always wear a helmet and reflective clothing. One rider per bike: Tandem riding is prohibited unless the bicycle is specifically designed for it. When riding in groups, cyclists must maintain a single file to avoid obstructing traffic. Safe parking: Park only in designated areas to avoid obstructing traffic or pedestrians. Prohibited actions: Performing dangerous tricks that endanger others is forbidden. Always adhere to speed limits on shared pathways. Holding onto vehicles or riding against traffic is strictly banned. Cycling is also restricted in pedestrian-only zones. Equipment standards: Bikes must have functional brakes, a white headlight, and a red taillight.Age restrictions: Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult when cycling.
Rental rules: Renters must be aged 18 and above and comply with safety standards. Rental companies are responsible for maintenance and insurance. Violations can result in fines. “Cyclists must respect these rules to ensure their safety and that of others,” according to Abu Dhabi Police.
