Sharjah International Airport Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle 8.716kg of narcotics into the UAE, authorities confirmed on Wednesday (October 2). The narcotics, including 10,934 tablets, were discovered hidden in headlights carried by a passenger attempting to pass through the airport. Customs officers became suspicious of the passenger's cardboard packages and conducted a thorough inspection, uncovering the concealed drugs. The case has since been transferred to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal action. Sharjah’s customs authority commended its officers for their vigilance and professionalism, highlighting their critical role in preventing illicit drugs from entering the country. The authority also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security across all entry points into the UAE. The UAE enforces strict anti-drug laws, with harsh penalties for those involved in the production, trafficking, or possession of narcotics.
