UAE authority clarifies viral post concerning Oreo biscuits being non-halal

UAE authorities made a clarification after a social media rumor about Oreo biscuits being a non-halal food went viral. The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (Adafsa) was alerted to a social media post concerning Oreo cookies containing alcohol and lard (pig fat) derivatives. According to Adafsa, there is no proof to back up the rumors. "Regarding the first claim that Oreo biscuit products contain a percentage of alcohol, there are many food products that contain small percentages of ethanol, resulting from natural fermentation that occurs during the processing steps. This is normal … in food products," the authority said. Adafsa ensures that these products meet the "limits, ratios, and controls" specified in the UAE standard. BKM/ Expat Media
