The UAE has banned unlicensed websites offering Quran classes, with authorities saying that unqualified educators pose as a risk to a misinterpretation of the holy book. In an advisory, the General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat warned residents to avoid dealing with unlicensed individuals, saying that unqualified religious education providers can lead to incorrect teaching and misinterpretation of the holy book. The General Authority for Islamic Affairs said that it is monitoring illegal online classes, and also urged the public to report unlicensed teaching activities. The authority also warned that engaging with unlicensed religious educators can put them at risk of legal penalties. Under the UAE law, unlicensed religious education activities are prohibited and it is also illegal to establish or manage any centre or to teach the Quran without the necessary licence from authorities Anyone caught teaching Quran without a license faces a punishment of not less than two months in jail and a fine of up to Dh50,000.
