Man weighing 262kg takes up ‘biggest loser’ challenge in Ras Al Khaimah

A total of 18,246 participants have joined the Ras Al Khaimah Biggest Weight Loss Challenge, according to organizer RAK Hospital. "This is by far the highest number of registrations we have received, almost double from last year," said Dr. Raza Siddiqui, executive director of RAK Hospital. Among the participants is a man weighing 262kg and a woman and while weighing 178kg. This year’s challenge added a new category for students. RAK Hospital is organizing the event in in association with the Ministry of Health and Prevention Ras Al Khaimah. According to organizers, 85 percent of the participants are overweight. Participants have a chance to win cash prizes of Dh300, Dh200 and Dh100 for every kilo of weight loss if they make it to the top three in the male and female category. Prizes also include health and holiday packages, gym memberships, staycations and dining vouchers. The 12-week challenge, which started on December 16, will end on World Obesity Day on March 4. An awards ceremony will be held on March 6. ICA/Expat Media
