UAE calls for household workers to be paid via WPS

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has called on employers to pay the salaries of their household workers through the Wage Protection System (WPS). The UAE defines 19 categories of domestic workers, including housemaid, nanny, personal driver and personal trainer. The WPS salary payment would “enable employers to document the payment of wages to the domestic workers, and at the same time safeguard the payment process,” said Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Assistant Under-Secretary for Domestic Workers at MoHRE. Employers can register in the system and contracting with the financial authorities accredited by the UAE Central Bank to provide the service. This service will be applied to 5 out of 19 professions within the domestic workers category, as of April 1, Al Nuaimi said. For private sector employees, WPS was applied in 2009. ICA/Expat Media
