UAE cargo ship sinks off coast of Iran, two crew members still missing

  A cargo ship from the UAE sank in Gulf waters off the border of Iran. Authorities are still searching for two missing crew members. The ship, identified as cargo vessel Al Salmy 6, reportedly carried 30 crew members. It had departed from Dubai carrying vehicles and other cargo to the port of Umm Qasr in southern Iraq. Dubai-based Salem Al Makrani Cargo Company previously told Reuters that their ship had sunk due to the bad weather. The firm's spokesperson stated that the crew members contacted the port authorities in Asalouyeh. According to the Iran Republic News Agency (IRNA), the ship sank 50 kilometers from the port of Asalouyeh, prompting a search-and-rescue operation in rough waters, with all but two passengers rescued as attempts continued on Thursday. Iranian authorities saved 27 out of the 30 sailors. One sailor was rescued by Front Savannah, an oil tanker that responded to the distress call. A local marine protection official told IRNA that three rescue vessels struggled to reach the location of the incident due to the bad weather.
