UAE: Cases of abandoned pets surge as cost of living soars

According to animal rescue workers in the UAE, more pets are being abandoned on the streets as their owners struggle to provide for them. More than 20 dogs and cats were saved during the July flash floods in Fujairah, highlighting the hardships animal shelters and rehoming centers confront due to rising living expenses. As some owners resort to cost-cutting tactics to combat the growing expenses of food, fuel, and bills, pets are sometimes the first casualties of difficult economic times. Animal rescues in the UAE claim that expats who are forced to leave the nation due to financial hardships or unexpected unemployment are abandoning their dogs. BKM/ Expat Media
