UAE to celebrate 'Emirati Women's Day'

On Sunday, the UAE will celebrate "Emirati Women's Day," a national holiday intended to honor the outstanding accomplishments of Emirati women and their crucial contributions to the advancement of society and the future. H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), announced that the theme of this year's Emirati Women's Day is "Inspiring Reality.. Sustainable Future" (FDF). In addition to highlighting the importance of improving women's skills and talents, the occasion annually calls on all national bodies to work together to build a sustainable future for Emirati women following the "Principles of the 50." The celebration this year takes place in conjunction with the UAE Gender Balance Council Strategy 2026, which aims to close the gender gap in all fields further, improve the UAE's standing in global competitiveness reports on gender equality, achieve gender equality in positions of decision-making, and solidify the UAE's position as a model for gender balance legislation. The four primary pillars and goals of the plan are as follows- "Economic Participation, Entrepreneurship and Financial Inclusion," which aims to reduce the economic gender gap by growing women's participation, retention, and leadership in the economy and increasing women's financial literacy and presence in the entrepreneurial sector. The UAE ranked first in the Arab world in the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Gender Gap Report 2022. The UAE climbed four global ranks to 68th after being in 72nd place globally in last year's edition. Over the past two years, the UAE has released legislation for more than 20 legal articles, including work, protection, political participation, personal status, judicial corps, wages, banking transactions, freedom of movement, marriage, entrepreneurship, property, and pension. The amendments intend to enhance women's gains, guarantee and protect their rights and raise the UAE's stature in competitiveness indicators and global reports. BKM/ Expat Media
