The UAE’s Child Protection Law takes effect on June 15 to ensure that cases of child abuse or negligence are reported and violators are slapped with fines ranging from Dh5,000 to Dh50,000 and given sentences of up to 10 years in jail. The Federal Law No 3 of 2016 was drafted following the death of eight-year-old Emirati girl, Wadeema, who was tortured by her father and girlfriend at their apartment in Dubai in 2012.
