UAE citizen seeking help gets response from Sheikh Mohammed

DUBAI - A plea for help from an Emirati man who made an appeal for his family over the radio got the attention of no other than Dubai's ruler. The Emirati made his appeal for help in a phone call to Ajman Radio on Monday. The radio station has a programme where callers can air their concerns and problems. The appeal reached His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who responded by instructing authorities to address the man's problems quickly. The Dubai ruler directed authorities to "provide all the requirements for a decent life for him and his family within the next 24 hours", according to the Dubai Media Office. Sheikh Mohammad tasked the Minister of Community Development, Hessa Essa Buhumaid, to provide the cabinet with a detailed report about the "needs of citizens with limited income". The minister was also ordered to present a plan to address the issue. Sheikh Mohammed underlined the importance of using national media in reaching out to citizens who need help.

Broadcaster suspended

Monday's radio plea came after Ajman Crown Prince Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi ordered the suspension of radio broadcaster Yaqoub Al Awadhi from Ajman FM Radio station. Al Awadhi was suspended for rude behaviour with a senior citizen who called him at the station to complain about price increases and their impact on the cost of living. The broadcaster interrupted the caller and made fun of him with rude answers during the live broadcast.
