The UAE Central Bank has released two commemorative coins to honor the country’s founding fathers, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The coins recognize their pivotal roles in establishing the UAE in 1971 following a historic meeting in Al Khawaneej. Sheikh Zayed became the nation’s first president, while Sheikh Rashid served as vice president. The commemorative set include a 40g gold coin with a 40mm diameter featuring portraits of both leaders and the UAE emblem and a 50g silver coin, 50mm in diameter, with similar designs and the words “Commemorative Coin” in Arabic. The gold coin is available exclusively at the Central Bank’s Abu Dhabi headquarters, while the silver coin can be purchased via the bank’s website. “We proudly announce the issuance of these commemorative coins, which embody the meanings of loyalty and belonging to the national legacy,” said Central Bank Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama. “This issuance marks the Zayed and Rashid campaign, aiming to solidify the values of unity and development upon which our nation was founded,” he added.
