UAE companies to face heavy penalties for negligence, breaching of safety rules

UAE officials have warned companies that they will be heavily penalized for failing to ensure a safe working environment for workers. In a post on social media, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) told employers to follow health and safety rules. These things are: – Ensure working areas are not used to store material, equipment, or rubbish and that sufficient space around machinery is provided to allow workers to move freely and avoid injury – Take necessary precautions to protect workers from falling objects – Fill potholes and drain stagnant water on the premises – Provide fire-resistant equipment – Mark entrances and emergency exits Article 342 of UAE law says that if an employer is found guilty of negligence and breach of safety standards, they can be fined and be sentenced to jail for up to five years.
