Women and children comprise the majority of the victims of human trafficking, enduring “extreme levels of violence, forced labor and dreadful sexual exploitation and abuse”, Abdullah Al Nuaimi said at the UN "World Day Against Trafficking in Persons" on Sunday (July 30). Al Nuaimi said that the UAE has implemented strict laws and is the region’s leading country against human trafficking by endorsing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. The country also participated in a significant Interpol operation against global human trafficking in 2021, which led to the arrest of numerous individuals involved in such illicit activities. He highlighted the UAE's comprehensive strategy for addressing human trafficking, known as the "Five P's" (prevention, prosecution, punishment, protection and promotion) of international cooperation. The UAE’s National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking supports and enhances efforts to combat human trafficking. A special Human Trafficking Crimes Control Centre also operates within the Dubai Police force to prevent and investigate human trafficking while improving support services for victims. In Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Academy has significantly increased the intensity of its training programs focused on human trafficking crimes.
