UAE: Court Dismisses Woman Who Accused an Ex-boyfriend of Refusing to Pay Dh542,000 Debt

The court dismissed the case of a woman who accused her ex-boyfriend of refusing to pay back Dh542,000 debt. According to court documents, the woman filed a complaint against the man, requesting that he repay the Dh542,000 she lent him. She stated that she had a long-term relationship with the defendant, which made her trust him. The woman explained that the man was having financial difficulties and wanted her to lend him the money in question. She said he promised to pay her back as quickly as possible but never kept his word. The victim stated that she attempted to speak with him multiple times and get the money back, but to no avail. Later, he blocked her phone number, making it impossible for her to contact him. As a result, she filed a complaint against him. To back up her assertions, the woman provided printouts of a bank statement and their conversations over WhatsApp and other social media networking sites. In court, the man denied borrowing the money from the woman, claiming that the phone conversations she produced were faked. His lawyer contended that the woman failed to provide any proof that the man borrowed money from her or admitted to receiving money from her. After hearing from all parties, the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Claims Court issued a ruling dismissing the case due to insufficient evidence. BKM/ Expat Media
