An Al Ain court has ruled against a man who fraudulently sold a damaged car for Dh185,000, ordering him to refund the full amount and pay Dh20,000 in compensation to the buyer. The case unfolded when the seller advertised the vehicle on a car-selling app, claiming it was in "perfect condition" and free from defects. However, after the purchase, the buyer discovered significant issues with the car, including past water damage. A mechanical expert appointed by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department later confirmed that the vehicle had previously been submerged in water, causing serious mechanical failures. The report also revealed that the car had been used by a rental company and had been involved in a minor traffic accident. Feeling deceived, the buyer took legal action, demanding a refund of Dh185,000 along with Dh30,272 in compensation for expenses and damages. He also presented repair bills amounting to Dh14,550 to support his claim. The defendant, however, denied any wrongdoing and requested the dismissal of the lawsuit, arguing that there was no evidence of fraud. He further sought to have the buyer cover legal costs. The court ruled in favor of the buyer, declaring the sales contract null and void due to misrepresentation. The judge ordered the seller to return the full amount and take back the defective vehicle.
