A patient in Abu Dhabi sued his doctor after he made a medical error during his inguinal hernia surgery. The patient's Dh250,000 request for compensation was overturned on appeal. The Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation overturned lower court rulings that ordered the hospital and doctor to pay the patient's compensation after the doctor was found guilty of making a medical error. According to court documents, the man filed a lawsuit against the hospital and the doctor who operated on him, seeking Dh2 million in compensation for moral and material damages. In his lawsuit, he stated that he was physically ill and was admitted to the hospital for inguinal hernia surgery. The doctor made a medical error during the operation, which was later proven by the Abu Dhabi Medical Liability Committee report. Both the Court of First Instance and the Court of Appeal had previously ruled that the medical center, the doctor, and the insurance company must pay the patient Dh250,000 in damages. The medical center and the doctor then filed an appeal with the Court of Cassation. In court, the doctor claimed he had filed a complaint against the Medical Liability Committee's decision. Until then, the complaint had not been resolved. BKM/ Expat MediaFor all the latest news from the UAE and the world, follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and subscribe to our YouTube page
