An Arab mother has lost custody of her four children after a court in Al Ain ruled her unfit due to an illicit affair, confirming she had violated moral and legal obligations expected of a custodian. According to court documents, the children's father filed the lawsuit after discovering the mother had engaged in an unlawful relationship. The court cited a criminal ruling showing she had been seen with a man in a hotel room, and had travelled with him in breach of modesty and chastity laws. In its ruling, the Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases Court stated that custody "is an obligation based on conditions of religion and ability," and emphasized that the best interest of the children takes precedence. "The matter of removing the children from the defendant mother's custody is required, due to the obscene acts she has committed and her insistence on continuing to do so," the judgment read. Although the mother accused the father of drug use, the court rejected the claim due to lack of evidence. The children will now be under the care of their father, assisted by their paternal grandmother and aunt, who expressed their willingness to look after them. ICA/Expat Media
