UAE Covid-19 test result in 5mins for Dh50

DUBAI – A rapid test facility set up on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi border on Sheikh Zayed Road gives coronavirus test results in just 5 minutes for only Dh50. The facility has been set up just before the Ghantoot border to allow the public to get their test results in order to enter Abu Dhabi with ease. The new facility works 24/7 to serve people entering the emirate and does not require booking.

Rapid test facility temporarily closed on Wednesday

On Wednesday (July 15), however, the centre was temporarily closed after crowds aboard hundreds of vehicles queued for the Dh50 test. Police were seen turning away drivers at the site as medics closed the screening centre. A traffic jam was seen on the E11 highway in the Abu Dhabi direction. Oliver Maunahan, a Filipino expat based in Abu Dhabi, told Expatmedia.net he was stuck in the car for more than one hour on Wednesday amid a traffic jam toward the the screening centre.

How the rapid test facility works

According to the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee and the Department of Health, the facility uses a laser-based technique. Those with a negative test result will be allowed to enter Abu Dhabi while those who test positive will undergo further testing through a PCR test. "Those who undergo a PCR test must return to their residence and avoid contact with others until their results are available,” according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office. Travellers with a negative result of the usual Covid-19 test will continue to be allowed entry to Abu Dhabi within 48 hours from receiving the result. On June 2, Abu Dhabi imposed movement restrictions to ensure that mass testing for coronavirus will be effective in curbing the spread of the virus. A Covid-negative result is mandatory to enter Abu Dhabi, which must be shown to authorities at checkpoints. The results may be sent through the AlHosn app or as a text message from any hospital or screening centre in the UAE affiliated to the National Screening Programme. Authorities, however, have encouraged the public to undergo tests in advance to avoid potential delays in their travel. ICA/Expat Media
