The UAE Ministry of Interior has renewed its call for drivers to give way to emergency vehicles, emphasizing the vital role motorists play in saving lives. The warning comes after 325 motorists were fined in 2024 for failing to yield to ambulances, police patrols, and other emergency responders. “When you hear sirens or see flashing lights, it’s not just a warning—it’s a call to action,” the Ministry stated. “Yielding to emergency vehicles isn’t just a legal requirement; it’s a matter of road safety and, most importantly, saving lives.” Under the UAE law, failure to give way to emergency vehicles results in a fine of Dh3,000, six black points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. This applies whether the emergency vehicle is approaching from behind, beside, or from another lane. According to the Ministry, out of the 325 cases, majority of violations occurred in Dubai with 160 cases, followed by Abu Dhabi with 107 cases. Ajman recorded 31 cases while 17 cases were recorded in Sharjah. Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah recorded less than 10 cases each. Authorities urge all motorists to remain vigilant, especially during emergencies, and to prioritize the lives that may be saved by their cooperation. ICA/Expat Media
