Deliveroo UAE announced the cancellation of plans to lower wages and increase work hours after the delivery riders strongly expressed their objection. Thousands of delivery riders were notified of the decision through a message immediately after the riders halted the food delivery services on Sunday when many refused to work. The company initially proposed to cut the payment that the riders receive per delivery from Dh10.25 to Dh8.75. Additionally, Deliveroo also told riders that the proposed 14-hour work shift was intended to help them 'maximize earnings' in a highly competitive market with rival delivery companies. Many riders work for 12 hours, split into two with an hour-long break between shifts, for example, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight. “We've listened to your feedback on these proposed changes and have decided that at the moment, they do not best reflect the ways in which riders in Dubai want to work,” the company said in a statement. “This means that the drop fee will remain at Dh10.25, and shift scheduling will remain as it currently is,” Deliveroo clarified.
