Up to Dh1m Fine for Unlicensed Health Workers

Clinics, hospitals and health facilities in the UAE that are found to have employed unlicensed health workers can be fined up to Dh1 million under new laws regulating the healthcare profession. According to the UAE Government, any facility found violating the provisions of the amended law can be fined between Dh1,000 and Dh1 million; and also faces temporary or permanent closure of the facility. The director or manager of a healthcare facility found violating the law will be fined between Dh1,000 and Dh500,000 and the temporary suspension of the medical licence. The law also imposes jail time and a fine ranging from Dh50,000 to Dh100,000 for healthcare professionals practicing without a licence or submitting fake documents to get their licence. The law applies to non-doctors and pharmacists for a number of healthcare professions, including those in nursing, laboratories, medical physics, functional therapy, physiotherapy, aesthetics, anaesthesia, audiology, and radiology. According to the law, no one is allowed to practise a health profession unless duly authorised. A licence is only granted to those with a bachelor’s degree in their specific field of work or a health profession qualification recognised in the UAE. country. Health professionals must also be medically fit, with good conduct. Meanwhile, the law has also been amended to allow foreigners to own veterinary facilities in the country.
