A paediatric orthopaedic surgeon employed in Dubai has been suspended following serious allegations of botched surgeries in the UK. Dr. Yaser Jabbar faces scrutiny over claims that his procedures led to severe complications for several children. Dr. Alya Al Mazrouei, CEO of Clemenceau Medical Centre, confirmed the immediate suspension of Dr. Jabbar in response to the allegations. The hospital is awaiting further decisions from relevant authorities regarding the matter. The suspensions come amidst reports from British media detailing adverse outcomes from surgeries performed by Dr. Jabbar. Reports from Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Dr. Jabbar previously worked, indicate an urgent review of over 700 cases, with 22 children experiencing harm. The investigation began after allegations were first raised in June 2022, leading to Dr. Jabbar’s resignation in September 2023. Dr. Jabbar, who recently joined Orthocure and Medcare Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital in Dubai, was listed as having extensive clinical experience. However, Medcare Orthopaedics clarified that he was never employed by them but was an external consultant. The ongoing review and investigation aim to determine if Dr. Jabbar’s practices in the UAE have been compromised.
