Needle stuck inside UAE patient for 10 years
DUBAI – An African expatriate in the UAE got the shock of her life after doctors told her there was a broken piece of needle that has been in her pelvis in the last ten years! The woman had gone to Burjeel Royal Hospital in Al Ain for a health check-up after experiencing a tingling sensation in her pelvis. The needle from a syringe broke in her pelvis when she underwent a Caesarean surgery in her home country in Africa, and the surgeon allegedly couldn’t find the broken piece and just stitched up the wound. A decade later, an MRI at the hospital in Al Ain revealed where the broken piece of needle was lodged. A medical team of doctors was assigned to carry out a surgery. Dr. Mohammed Sobhi Al Saeed, consultant specialist at Burjeel Royal Hospital in Al Ain, said that the surgery to remove the needle from the woman’s pelvis took less than two hours.
