A driver who hit a biker during a road rage incident was sentenced to three months in prison and fined Dh20,000. The event occurred due to an argument on the road in Ras Al Khaimah. The driver was also given a three-year suspended jail sentence. The motorist was found guilty of hitting the biker, endangering his life, reckless driving, and other charges by the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court of First Instance. According to court documents, the driver was referred to court after the motorcyclist filed a complaint against him for intentionally hitting him and wrecking his bike. The man claimed the car pursued him on a public road in Ras Al Khaimah. He explained that an argument ensued between him and the driver while riding his motorcycle. The victim stated that he was startled when the defendant, driving in a separate lane, began chasing him. When he reached him, the defendant hit his motorbike in trying to kill him and then fled the scene. The man was charged with assault causing injuries, damage to property, life endangerment, failure to comply with traffic regulations, and reckless driving. The judge found him guilty on all counts and punished him. In addition, the plaintiff has launched a civil complaint against the motorist seeking compensation. He had sought Dh45,000 in damages for material, moral, and physical harm, as well as Dh30,000 for the cost of his motorbike, which had been wrecked in the incident. However, the judge ordered the driver to pay the victim Dh15,000 in compensation for all damages. The defendant was also ordered to pay the plaintiff's legal fees.
