Workers in UAE can get unlimited annual leaves

An "unlimited" annual leave policy is a global trend for employees to remain in the company. Some companies in the UAE include this incentive as a benefit, although it can be considered rare. According to the law, employees in the UAE are mandated to have a fully compensated 30-day annual leave after one year of service. The super app Careem, based in Dubai, is one company in the UAE that provides the policy. According to Kai Sin Tan, director of Rewards and Benefits, the "unlimited leave" policy allows employees to adapt to personal circumstances while meeting the demanding requirements of their professions. "It's part of our wider colleague value proposition which includes a flexible hybrid of in-office and home days and the opportunity to work from other locations for 30 days per year," he said. James Toye, a consultant at the international employment firm Hays, noted that only two percent of businesses indicated they provide unrestricted annual leave as a typical benefit, citing a recent Middle East study. In contrast, according to the findings of the recruitment specialist, one in four firms provide additional vacation days on top of the required yearly leave. On the other hand, unlimited annual leave was rated highly by only four percent of workers. The regulation is "about changing people's mental relationship with leave days," not about employees taking excessive time off. The same rules and regulations apply as with regular vacation days. When a colleague requests more time off, they need to have the necessary conversations with their line manager to ensure that work is not affected. KD/Expat Media
