The UAE has enacted stringent traffic regulations, particularly during adverse weather conditions, to enhance road safety and prevent accidents. Violating these laws can lead to hefty fines, vehicle impoundment, and black points on a driver’s record. Here's a list of critical rules and their corresponding penalties that every motorist should be aware of:

Do not enter flooded valleys

Motorists are prohibited from entering flooded valleys, even if the water level appears manageable. The penalty for violating this law is a Dh2,000 fine, along with 23 black points and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.

Avoid gathering near valleys and dams during rainfall

It is illegal for drivers to congregate near valleys and dams when it is raining. Violators face a Dh1,000 fine and will receive six black points on their traffic file.

Do not obstruct rescue operations

Motorists must not hinder rescue efforts or traffic management during emergencies, heavy rain, or natural disasters. The penalty for obstructing authorities is a Dh1,000 fine, along with four black points and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.

Incorrect use of hazard lights

Hazard lights should only be used when a vehicle is stationary or to alert motorists to an accident or danger ahead. Incorrect use during fog or rain confuses other drivers and is subject to a Dh500 fine and four black points.

Commuting during bad weather counts as work hours

Under UAE Labor Law, time spent commuting during rain, floods, or bad weather conditions can be counted as part of an employee's working hours under specific circumstances. This applies to company-provided transport or if travel time is stipulated in the employment contract. By enforcing these regulations, UAE authorities aim to reduce traffic incidents and ensure the safety of all road users, especially during unpredictable weather conditions. ICA/Expat Media
