The Indian Consulate in Dubai has expanded its Life Protection Plan, launching a new Dh32 insurance scheme for Indian blue-collar workers in the UAE. The initiative, in collaboration with Dubai National Insurance (DNI) and Nexus Insurance Brokers, aims to provide financial security for families in the event of a worker’s death due to natural or accidental causes. The plan offers Dh35,000 in compensation to the insured’s family and covers repatriation costs of mortal remains—an essential service for grieving families wanting to bring their loved ones home. The consulate initiated the Life Protection Plan after recognizing that most companies only offer insurance for work-related injuries and deaths, leaving families without financial assistance in cases of natural deaths. “At a very nominal premium, this plan provides critical support to the families of laborers who unfortunately pass away,” said Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai. The scheme covers workers aged 18 to 69 and provides additional benefits, including partial and total disability coverage. The consulate is encouraging UAE employers to adopt the plan, highlighting its affordability and significant benefits for workers. “We encourage employers to look at this proposal positively. It’s an affordable plan that will help protect employees who are not covered under life insurance,” Sivan added. Senior executives from participating insurance companies also confirmed that while the plan was initially designed for Indian blue-collar workers, it can be extended to other nationalities and workers in similar job categories.

How the new plan compares to existing schemes

Previously, insurance schemes introduced by the consulate ranged from Dh37 to Dh72 annually, with payouts from Dh35,000 to Dh75,000. While the new Dh32 plan offers lower premium costs, it still provides essential financial protection for expat workers. Key benefits of the new Dh32 plan: - Dh35,000 payout for natural and accidental deaths - Covers partial and total disabilities - Up to Dh12,000 for repatriation of mortal remains The consulate assured that both the existing and new plans will run in parallel, allowing companies and individuals to choose the coverage that best suits their needs. For many Indian expat workers, this initiative marks an essential step toward greater financial security, ensuring their families receive support in times of tragedy. ICA/Expat Media
