UAE expat dies in ‘anaesthesia mishap’ during India surgery

  DUBAI – An Indian expatriate died after a botched surgery at a hospital in Kerala, according to reports on Wednesday (July 24). Sandhya Menon, 37, had flown from Abu Dhabi to India with her husband and two sons for the summer and to undergo a sterilization surgery at a private hospital in her Kerala hometown. According to her family, she died due to an alleged “anaesthesia mishap” during the surgery at a private hospital in Aluva, Kerala. She was transferred to Rajagiri Medical College on Monday where she was confirmed dead. Her relative, MS Rajeevan, told Khaleej Times that Menon, who was a nurse, had allegedly told her mother after being admitted into the hospital that there was a mix-up in her case file. Going ahead with the surgery, Menon reportedly lost consciousness after the anaesthesia was administered. The family has filed a case against the hospital at a local police station. Menon's funeral is scheduled on Wednesday.
