UAE expats, Emiratis urged to take regular PCR tests
DUBAI – Expatriates and Emiratis in the UAE are urged to take regular PCR tests amid a rise in the number of daily Covid-19 cases in the country. “We advise everyone to conduct a PCR test, especially before family visits or gatherings, and when meeting the elderly and those with chronic diseases,” said Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, official spokesperson for the UAE health sector. Dr. Al Ghaithi said that regular testing played a big role in curbing the spread of coronavirus. “Since the beginning of the pandemic, the regular PCR check-ups have been proven as a key method for early detection of infections, identify those who came in contact with cases and to control the cases,” she said. She urged the public to continue observing health protocol, including the wearing of face masks, and avoiding physical contact like hugging and shaking hands. On Thursday (January 6), the UAE’s number of new Covid-19 cases remained above 2,000, with authorities recording 2,687 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours.
