Woman tricked with ‘job offer,’ forced into prostitution

An African woman lured to the UAE with a fake job offer was illegally detained into an apartment and then forced into prostitution by two perpetrators. A trial into the case is now underway. The victim testified that she went to UAE after receiving an offer from one of her friends to work as a housemaid. One of the perpetrators sent her an airplane ticket. When she arrived in the UAE, she was forced to work to pay for her travel expenses costing Dh20,000. The woman recounted how she tried to escape multiple times but failed to do so. She was finally able to escape when she tricked the perpetrators by pretending to be ill. She was then allowed by one of them to leave the apartment to buy medicine. The victim took the chance and sought the help of a compatriot. The case dates back to June, 2021. The accused were caught by the police trying to flee when the woman met them to retrieve her passport. The perpetrators were sentenced to three years in prison and deportation by the Dubai Criminal Court for human trafficking. JMS/ Expat Media

An African woman was lured from her homeland to UAE for an alleged "job offer," was illegally detained into an apartment, and was forced into prostitution by two perpetrators. The victim testified that she went to UAE after receiving an offer to work as a maid from one of her friends. One of the perpetrators sent her an air ticket. When she got to UAE, she was told to work to pay for the expenses costing Dh20,000. The woman recounted how she tried to escape multiple times but failed to do so. She was finally able to escape when she tricked the perpetrators by pretending to be ill. She was then allowed by one of them to leave the apartment to buy medicine. The victim took the chance and went over to someone from her homeland and was given shelter. This case was dated way back to June 2021. The accused were caught by the police trying to flee when the woman met them to retrieve her passport.
