UAE: Father sues son for not returning illegally collected cheques

The Abu Dhabi Court for Family and Civil and Administrative Claims required a young man to return the illegally obtained cheques to his father after he refused to hand them over. According to court documents, the father filed a case against his son, stating that he took over seven cheques. The cheques were payments made to the father from various people. The young man had received and signed the documents acknowledging the receipt, but he refused to give them to his father, the legal owner of the cheques. The father had provided evidence to the court showing that his son had received the cheques. Furthermore, the father stated that he constantly requested his son to hand over the cheques, but the young man refused, prompting the father to take the case to court. The father also requested that the court order his son to repay the Dh75,000 allegedly stolen from him. In return, the son also filed a complaint in which he demanded the introduction of new litigants to the case. He argued that the plaintiff was incapable due to his age and frailty. The son also requested a medical committee to assess his father's health and a guardian to manage his father's financial and private affairs. However, the court denied his demands and claims against his father. After hearing from both parties, the court ordered the young man to return the cheques to his father and pay his legal fees. It did, however, dismiss the father's Dh75,000 claim since there was no evidence that his son stole the money from him. BKM/ Expat Media
