As the summer heat sizzles, air-conditioned rest pods have been opened in Abu Dhabi to serve as a smart shelter for delivery riders in the capital. The air-conditioned pods are considered the first-of-its-kind in the region and are aimed at helping delivery riders avoid heatstroke, particularly when doing their delivery rounds under the intense summer heat. There are three smart rest pods available in Abu Dhabi, which are open round-the-clock. The solar-powered rest areas, which are decorated with bright graffiti art by local artists, also feature a shaded parking area for bikes and an air pump for tyre pressure checks. The rest areas use solar energy and feature seats, rechargeable batteries, water dispensers, and mobile recharge stations to help delivery riders stay cool. The initiative is part of the campaign by the Joint Committee for Traffic Safety in Abu Dhabi, in partnership with food delivery firm Talabat, and supported by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and other governmental entities.
