The global initiative aims to collect devices for underprivileged children worldwide
A UAE-based foundation has launched a global initiative to collect 10,000 devices for underprivileged children worldwide. The Donate Your Own Device campaign, in partnership with Emirates Red Crescent and Ecyclex, is collecting electronic devices and accessories from individuals and donors to provide these children with the tools they need for education. The “Digital School” initiative by Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives (MBRGI), accepts devices in any condition and refurbishes it. This program not only empowers students, but also reduces electronic waste in the UAE. The Digital School, launched in 2020, educates refugees and underprivileged children in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish. Over 60,000 pupils from multiple countries have benefited and 1,500 digital teachers have been trained. Over 50 million metric tonnes of e-waste is generated annually, equivalent to 800 laptops per second. Everyone can donate devices at Emirates Red Crescent offices, Donate Your Own Device website, or through the Reloop recycling app. Donations are accepted via the ERC website or by SMS to 2441 (Etisalat) or 3441 (DU).
