The UAE Government has announced tougher new penalties on driving with an invalid or suspended licence as part of changes to the federal decree law that will come into effect on March 29, 2025. Under the updated law announced on Friday (October 25), driving with a suspended licence will be punishable with jail time of up to three months and a fine of not less than Dh10,000. The new law also punishes anyone driving with a foreign driving licence that is not recognised in the UAE with a fine of between Dh2,000 and Dh10,000. Repeat offences will be punishable with jail time of not less than three months and a fine of Dh5,000 to Dh50,000. Motorists driving without a licence or using a licence for a different type of vehicle shall be punished by imprisonment of up to three months and a fine of Dh5,000 to Dh50,000. Repeat offenders will be punished with a minimum jail time of three months and a fine of Dh20,000 to Dh100,000. ICA/Expat Media
