The UAE Government has announced tougher new penalties on hit and run incidents as part of changes to the federal decree law that will come into effect on March 29, 2025. Under the updated law announced on Friday (October 25), failure to stop after a traffic accident that results injuries will be punishable with jail time of up to two years and a fine of between Dh50,000 and Dh100,000. The same penalties also apply to the owner of the vehicle that caused a crime or accident and failed to provide information on the circumstances of the incident or the person responsible. Fleeing from police officers is also considered a crime that will be punishable with the same penalties. ICA/Expat Media
