The UAE Government has announced tougher new penalties on negligent drivers causing road deaths, as part of changes to the federal decree law that will come into effect on March 29, 2025. Under the updated law announced on Friday (October 25), whoever causes the death of a person on the road shall be punished by imprisonment and a fine of not less than Dh50,000. The penalty is increased to a minimum jail time of one year and a minimum fine of Dh100,000 in case of aggravating circumstances, like beating the red light, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving without a licence, driving in a valley during floods or misusing a licence plate.
